Charles G. Goldman, President, Chief Executive Officer


Charles Goldman, with executive experience across a range of industries, is recognized for effectively turning around and building successful businesses through major growth initiatives, cost containment and by building world-class service organizations.

Mr. Goldman is President & CEO of AssetMark, Inc., and serves on the boards of Personal Capital Corporation, Mercer Advisors, Inc., and the American Mountain Guides Association. Prior to joining AssetMark, Mr. Goldman was an advisor to Bain & Company, Genstar Capital, Aquiline Capital Partners, Advent International, Goldman Sachs, Raymond James, Boulder Ventures and several registered investment advisors, private equity firms and startup companies. He has been featured in The Wall Street Journal, Barron's, InvestmentNews, RIABiz, Financial Advisor magazine, Financial Advisor IQ, and WealthManagement.com.

He was formerly President of Fidelity Investments, Custody & Clearing, where he was responsible for three of Fidelity's businesses: National Financial, Fidelity Institutional Wealth Services and Fidelity Family Office Service. Prior to joining Fidelity, Mr. Goldman held several senior roles at The Charles Schwab Corporation including membership on the firm's executive committee, head of Schwab Institutional and head of Strategy, M&A and Venture Capital.

Mr. Goldman was previously President of Paramount Farms, Inc., a privately held $250 million packaged food company and President of Paramount Citrus Association, the largest grower and packer of citrus in the Sunkist Cooperative. Mr. Goldman was a consultant from 1991 through 1996 for The Boston Consulting Group, and he began his corporate finance career in 1987 with Bankers Trust Company in New York City.

Mr. Goldman's prior board service includes: Wall Street on Demand, Woolf Enterprises, CorrectNet, Sunkist and the Foundation for Financial Planning.

Mr. Goldman received his BS degree in finance, magna cum laude, from the University of Southern California in 1987. He also received his MBA, with honors, in general management from the University of California, Los Angeles in 1991.

Gary Zyla, EVP, Chief Financial Officer


Gary oversees Finance and Human Resources for all the AssetMark businesses. He joined the company as CFO in 2011. Gary’s prior experience includes roles at Genworth Financial in both the Corporate and Retirement and Protection segments, where he led the Capital Management team and served as Vice President of Financial Planning & Analysis. Prior to joining Genworth, Gary was an actuary and financial analyst in New York and Washington, DC.

He has a Bachelor’s degree in Math and History from the State University of New York-Binghamton, and an MBA in Finance from the University of Maryland.

Carrie E. Hansen, EVP, Chief Operating Officer, President Mutual Funds


Carrie leads all Operations and Service functions for the firm including Service, Trade Operations, New Business, Account Operations, Reporting, and Billing and Facilities, while also overseeing all custodial relationships, including AssetMark Trust Company where she is Chair of the Board. In addition, as President and Chairman of the Board of AssetMark's proprietary mutual fund family, Carrie directs three fund trusts, comprising 17 mutual funds, for which AssetMark serves as Advisor. Carrie is also President of AssetMark's proprietary broker dealer, AssetMark Brokerage, LLC.

Carrie joined the firm in 2000 and has held various key roles including Chief Financial Officer and Chief Compliance Officer. Prior to joining AssetMark, Carrie worked for Barclays Global Investors where she headed the Investment Operations Group in the Tokyo, Japan office. She also spent several years at Coopers and Lybrand where she was an Audit Manager.

Carrie received a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration, from the University of California, Berkeley. She is also a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and holds her series 6 and 26 licenses.

Jerry Chafkin, EVP, Chief Investment Officer


Jerry is responsible for designing, enhancing and managing the company’s investment solutions framework and providing investment and market perspectives to advisors and their clients. He joined AssetMark in 2014, bringing to the firm over 25 years of financial services leadership. Previously, Jerry was a portfolio manager and CEO at AlphaSimplex Group, a liquid alternatives and active volatility management specialist in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Prior to that, he was CEO at IXIS Asset Management in Boston, and spent nearly a decade at Charles Schwab in a range of leadership roles, including CEO of the asset management division.

Jerry began his career at Bankers Trust Company where he spent almost 15 years in a variety of asset management roles working with institutional clients in the US and abroad. At the time of his departure from Bankers Trust, Jerry was the CEO of its Structured Investment Management business, with more than $250 billion in AUM in fixed income, quantitative equity, and asset allocation strategies. He received a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from Yale University and holds a Master of Business Administration in Finance from Columbia University.

Michael Abelson, CFA, EVP, Corporate Development


Mike is responsible for analyzing acquisition and growth opportunities that support advisor and client needs. He also leads strategic projects for the senior leadership team.

Previously, Mike was head of Investment and Product Development for the firm. He joined the firm in 1994 and has served in several additional leadership roles ranging from operations and service to project management and business development. He earned his MBA from The Marshall School of Business at the University of Southern California, and holds the Chartered Financial Analyst designation (CFA).

Michael Kim, EVP, Chief Client Officer


Michael is responsible for AssetMark's Client Development Group. He oversees the sales and marketing teams, sales strategy and operations, and strategic accounts. Michael looks for innovative and strategic ways to expand the reach of our engagements with existing and prospective advisors.

Michael has over 25 years of experience working with financial advisors in various capacities. Prior to joining AssetMark, Michael was a Senior Vice President at Fidelity Investments, responsible for Sales Management, Relationship Management and Practice Management. Michael started his professional career at Coopers & Lybrand, LLC.

Michael is a member of American Institute of Certified Public Accountants,and received his BA in Economics from UCLA.

Muk Mehta, EVP, Chief Information Officer


Mukesh (Muk) is responsible for the firm's technology strategy and implementation with a specific focus on creating systems and solutions that help advisors achieve success. Additionally, he will identify and incorporate systems enhancements to improve AssetMark's service and operations capabilities that support advisors. Previously, Muk was the Chief Information and Technology Officer at Cetera Financial Group, the second-largest network of broker-dealers serving over 9,500 independent advisors. Prior to that, he was a Managing Director and Corporate CIO at TD Ameritrade and was also SVP and CIO of Schwab Institutional. Muk has been featured in Barron's, InvestmentNews, RIABiz, and Marketwired.

Muk received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Mathematics and Economics from Rutgers University and is a graduate of the Stanford Graduate School of Business Executive Program. He holds series 7, 24 and 63 licenses.

Natalie Wolfsen, EVP, Chief Solutions Officer


Natalie leads the firm's Strategy and Solutions Group. She focuses on advisors' end-to-end experiences by understanding their needs and then overseeing the development of products and services to meet those needs. Natalie has been featured in FundFire, ThinkAdvisor, FA Magazine, Financial Advisor IQ, and Benzinga.

Before joining the firm Natalie was most recently head of marketing for New York based asset manager First Eagle Investment Management. She previously served as head of product management and development for Pershing and spent several years at Charles Schwab in product development, marketing and strategy roles.

Natalie earned an MBA from University of California, Los Angeles - The Anderson School of Management, and a BA from the University of California, Berkeley.

Ted Angus, EVP, General Counsel


Ted is responsible for managing the Legal department across all AssetMark businesses. He has over 20 years of experience providing legal services to financial services companies.

Prior to joining AssetMark, Ted was Vice President, Associate General Counsel at Charles Schwab, providing legal and regulatory counseling to a variety of Schwab business enterprises. Ted started his professional career at two law firms as a securities litigator, primarily representing financial services companies in securities arbitrations, SEC investigations and shareholder class actions.

Ted earned a BA in History and a BA in Economics from the University of California at Los Angeles in 1992 and a JD from the University of California Hastings College of the Law in 1996.
